Guns. Once again I feel I must add my two cents on your comments concerning firearms. Being a very loyal member of the National Rifle Association, it is my duty to defend the Second Amendment whenever it comes under attack. You see, our founding fathers, and yours as well, since you are an American citizen now, created a document called the "Constitution". This document was created as the very foundation of our government. The first 10 amendments, also known as the "Bill of Rights" spells out the freedoms that all American's are supposed to enjoy, and these freedoms can never legally be taken away by the government, (although many of them are being taken away illegally, as you may notice). The second one of these amendments concerns the possession of firearms. It states, "A well-regulated militia, being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." This amendment was so important to our fathers, that it was included immediately after freedom of speech, religion, and the press. It is one of the most important and vital freedoms a people can have. No other government document in any major nation not only guarantees, but INSISTS that its people be armed. Thomas Jefferson put it best when he stated, "When the government fears the people there is liberty, when the people fear the government there is tyranny." Were it not for the armed farmers with their muskets who came from their fields to fight the redcoats, we would be singing "God Save the Queen" before ballgames. The reason why we are allowed to have guns is, not only to protect ourselves, our families, and our property from others, but to protect our freedom from a tyrannical government. Now, since you said you are not anti-gun, I'm sure you agree with me here, so I will move on to the second part of my argument. You say that the statement, "Cars kill more people than guns" is crap, even though you admit that it is statistically accurate. You are contradicting yourself. What you are saying is, you simply do not want to believe what is the inarguable truth. Cars kill hundreds of times more people, and are infinitely more dangerous than guns. Yet you don't see any cries by the communist media elites for tougher car-control laws. Gun-control advocates like to play on the sympathy of the ignorant by painting a picture of a country where poor, innocent children are being butchered left and right, every day, by guns. But this picture has absolutely no basis in fact. The truth is, more children die each year from falling down stairs, swallowing household chemicals, choking, and neglect. You have very little to worry about, being killed by a gunman, especially in Ohio. But if you are so worried that you cannot defend against a person with a firearm, you might want to think about getting one yourself. Because what are you going to do, outlaw them? The only people who turn in guns will be the law-abiding. Criminals, or potential criminals, who want to commit violent crimes and prey on the weak are not going to say, "Oh well, the government says I have to turn in my guns. Damn! I guess I'll have to do it." While I do agree that it is manlier to fight with swords like my Germanic ancestors, I must recognize the fact that guns are an ingenious weapon. Its invention helped Western Culture to become the most powerful in the world. It enabled us to conquer barbarian tribes and build a new world. Europeans have been proving their bravery with swords, spears, and arrows for thousands of years. But guns ushered in a new era of ingenuity, where the superior intellect of our race enabled us to conquer most of the world. I hope I have given you something to think about. Guns should not be viewed as an evil, but as necessary tools, just as swords and bows and spears were necessary to our ancestors. And as for not being able to have any skill in using them, it is not as easy as you think. Just because you can shoot a rifle at a target doesn't mean you will perform well in the heat of battle. Warfare today is still physically demanding, it doesn't involve a couple of fat lazy guys sitting in front of their machine guns yawning and mowing down their enemies. And most of all, think of it this way. If firearms suddenly were to disappear, a person like me, being twice your size and weight, would be able to easily ravage you and pillage your house at will. Wouldn't you like a gun to even the odds? I am, etc. Pharaoh

Take care in your assumption that God does not exist. While I am agnostic, and therefore do not assert that such a deity does exist, seeing that man's knowledge of the universe is so small and limited, it is impossible for one to conclude with any certainty whether or not a supreme being exists. We have not gained ultimate knowledge, and until we do, we must always acknowledge the fact that we are blind worms feeling our way through the dark.

The anti-American sentiment on this site somewhat distresses me. It leads me to wonder why your family did not choose some other benevolent European country to move to, seeing how our nation sucks and all. I'm not saying we are perfect, far from it in fact, but I challenge you to find a better place to live.
